Our Veterinarians:

Dr. Ken Bernstein

Dr. Ken Bernstein (University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, 1973) treats dogs, cats, rabbits and rodents, and also volunteers as a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator. His special interests are ophthalmology and lyme disease.

In his spare time, he enjoys hiking in the woods with his dog Tex, fishing, and taking care of his ducks and chickens. He has published articles in peer reviewed veterinary medical journals.

Dr. Sherry Himmelstein

Dr. Sherry Himmelstein (University of Pennsylvania 1976) treats dogs, cats, and birds, along with injured wildlife. Her special interests are diabetes and weight management.

She and her husband, Dr Ken Bernstein, have 2 dogs, a cat, 5 ducks, 4 chickens and 2 grand-dogs (who belong to their adult daughters). She enjoys hiking and is president of Minnechaug Land Trust, a non-profit organization that protects open space in Hampden and Wilbraham.

Dr. Joy Alleman

Dr. Joy Alleman, a 1998 graduate of the University of California Davis Veterinary School, is an East Longmeadow native who practiced in the Boston area for 20 years. We are thrilled that she’s returned to this area and joined our team. Long ago, she worked at Spruce Hill as a veterinary technician prior to becoming a veterinarian. She treats dogs, cats, small exotics, pocket pets and wildlife.She has a special interest in senior wellness and pain management, experience with laser therapy, and is certified in veterinary acupuncture and physical rehabilitation therapy.

In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors, hiking with her dog Willow, gardening, yoga, and home projects.
